Frequently Asked Questions
........................................................................................................................................................
What is Microcyn60™?
Microcyn60™is formulated from
the proprietary Microcyn® Technology Platform
which is capable of producing a pH-neutral, non-irritating
solution of oxychlorine compounds that are similar to the
chemicals produced by the human body (neutrophils) in its
defense against microorganisms. The mechanism of action of
oxychlorine compounds against single-cell organisms, due
to their reactivity with lipids and proteins in cell membranes,
can cause these organisms to rupture and die. It has
been reported that Microcyn induces vasodialation and has
demonstrated biocompatibility with fibroblast and granulation
tissue.
The Microcyn Technology is capable
of producing a highly controlled blend of oxychlorine chemicals
specially formulated to demonstrate activity against a
wide range of microorganisms at exceedingly low concentrations. It
is also this controlled balance of chemicals that is responsible
for the technology’s extended stability, tissue biocompatibility,
efficacy and safety.
What is super-oxidized water?
Super-oxidized water is water that
has been though an electrolysis process. In an
electrolysis cell, water is oxidized at the anode meaning
that it gives up electrons. This
causes the formation of oxidized species such as oxygen and
ozone. Additionally, a
small amount of chloride ion is needed in the water to allow
electrolysis to occur. As a
result, a number of oxidized chlorine/oxygen compounds are
formed.
How is it applied?
Microcyn60™ may be used as part
of comprehensive wound care regimen. It can be applied directly
to the wound or used in conjunction with absorbent wound
dressings, positive- and negative-pressure devices and other
wound care products.
What is the shelf life of
Microcyn60™?
One year from date of manufacture,
but should be completely used within 30 days of opening.
What is the pH of Microcyn60™?
Microcyn60™ is a ph-neutral
solution, with a ph between 6.2 – 7.8.
Are there any side effects
or known sensitivity to Microcyn60™?
Pre-clinical studies suggest that Microcyn60™
is non-irritating and non-sensitizing. In rare cases, a patient
may experience a transitory mild burning sensation upon application.
However, this side effect lasts for just a few minutes and
does not cause injury. This does not interfere with wound
healing.
What in vivo testing has
been done with Microcyn60™?
Several toxicological tests have been
conducted in accordance with the FDA and ISO regulations.
These include ocular, sensitization, irritation, systemic
toxicity and inhalation testing. Microcyn60™ has been
tested in several animal wound models.
How should Microcyn60™
be stored?
Microcyn60™ should be kept at
room temperature and should be kept out of direct sunlight. |
