A New Era in Anti-Infectives

The following data is based upon testing done on the Microcyn® Technology platform and does not necessarily infer that similar data would be generated in testing on various Microcyn-based products or formulas under development.

MIcrocyn Technology

The technology behind the Microcyn® Technology-based family of products involves a unique, patented electrochemical treatment of dilute saltwater. A pH neutral solution of hypochlorous acid, and its sodium salt, hypochlorite, is generated. Hypochlorous acid is a natural product the human body produces in response to injury.

Unlike standard electrochemical processes where the unstable nature of the product makes onsite generation necessary, Microcyn Technology has good stability and therefore is available to the consumer in a variety of containers. This stability is a result of the unique solution chemistry imparted through the patented manufacturing system.

Microcyn Technology has demonstrated the ability in laboratory testing to rapidly inactive microorganisms in solution. The technology is not known to facilitate microbial resistance. Thirty-second exposures in solution resulted in at least a 99.9998% reduction in the following organisms, and others:

  • Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA)
  • Enterococcus faecalis (YRE)
  • Acinetobacter baumannii
  • Pseudomonas aeruginosa
  • Klebsiella oxytoca
  • Klebsiella pneumonia

There are no known drug/treatment interactions or contraindications with Microcyn-based products. They are safe to use around the nose, mouth, and eyes. Testing has demonstrated the gel and liquid products to be non-irritating, non-sensitizing, non-toxic and non-cytotoxic. Through additional testing, Microcyn-based liquid products have been found to have no oral toxicity, cause no ocular irritation and are non-genotoxic. Microcyn-based liquid products assist in the mechanical removal of cellular debris, senescent cells, necrotic tissue, and foreign material from the skin and wound surface. Removal of these materials through these actions is known to decrease infection rates and improve wound healing .

Microcyn-based hydrogel products contain over 95% water. Moisture supplied to the wound by these gels creates a moist wound environment that re-hydrates necrotic tissue and promotes autolysis. These processes assist with natural debridement thus enhancing the healing process.
