A New Era in Anti-Infectives

Partners

In addition to our focus on the U.S. clinical program, the company has been very proactive in the area of partnering and licensing. To date, the company has completed agreements with five key partners: Alkem Laboratories (India), Drug Enhancement Corporation of America (DECA), China Bao Tai, Walco and Bayer Animal Health. As well, discussions continue with a number of prospective partners for the licensing of Microcyn for healthcare and other applications.

Alkem Laboratories:
In 2006, Alkem Laboratories, one of India’s top 10 pharmaceutical companies, licensed the rights to the Microcyn Technology in India for use in wound care. Alkem has an impressive track record of building major brands with doctors and consumers. Alkem has commercialized its Microcyn wound care product under the brand name Oxum, its launch being the premier marketing event for Alkem in 2006.

Union Springs Pharmaceuticals :
In June of 2007, Oculus entered into an exclusive licensing agreement with Union Springs Pharmaceuticals, under which Oculus licensed rights to its Microcyn® Technology for use in an over-the-counter first responder “pen-like” applicator intended for use by police, fire, military, emergency medical personnel, healthcare providers, homeland security personnel and consumers.

MyClyns™ is a topical post-exposure protection device that provides for a versatile, convenient and readily accessible first response spray.

China Bao Tai:
In April of 2007, Oculus entered into an exclusive distribution agreement with China Bao Tai Investment Company, Ltd., for the rights to its Microcyn®-based wound care solution in China. The Microcyn Technology will be packaged under China Bao Tai’s private label brand names in China.

China Bao Tai will utilize various sub-distributors for hospitals, independent pharmacies and retail pharmacies. To that end, China Bao Tai has reached agreement with two sub-distributors:

  • Sinopharm for hospital and pharmacy distribution:
Sinopharm is China's largest pharmaceutical group. Incorporating research with production and service trade, the company has under its jurisdiction 10 wholly owned subsidiaries or shareholding companies.
  • Lianhua Supermarkets for supermarket distribution:
Lianhua Supermarket Holdings Co., Ltd. is a retail chain operator with retail outlets covering the entire Chinese nation, offering a full range of products through direct operations, franchises, mergers and acquisitions. Lianhua Supermarket operates a total of 3,609 outlets spanning 21 provinces and municipalities across the nation.

China Bao Tai has completed two randomized controlled clinical trials of shelf-stable Microcyn® Technology in China, a 162-patient burn wound study and a 35-patient chronic would treatment study. This trial data was submitted to the Chinese State Food and Drug Administration (SFDA) in December 2007 and marketing approval was granted by the agency in March of 2008. Preparations are now underway for commercialization of the Microcyn Technology in China.

Bayer Animal Health:
In June 2008, Oculus entered into agreements with Bayer Australia Limited and Bayer (Sichuan) Animal Health Co. Ltd., for development of the Microcyn Technology for use in the Australian and Chinese animal health markets respectively. Upon receipt of necessary regulatory approvals, Bayer retains right of first negotiation to enter into a distribution agreement for Oculus’ Vetericyn™ animal brand (formulated with the Microcyn Technology) in those countries.

Walco:
In January 2008, Oculus entered into an exclusive distribution agreement with Walco, a subsidiary of Animal Health International, Inc., for the rights to its Microcyn®-based Vetericyn™ Wound Spray for animals in North America. Walco is currently engaged in an animal study using the Vetericyn Wound Spray in an effort to better understand the production animal wound care market while also obtaining clinical evidence of safety and efficacy for use in marketing.
